Homemade Salsa

Now that its officially summer, I’ve been at the cottage quite a bit! This salsa was the perfect thing to have with a bowl of tortilla chips on the back deck. Most of the ingredients you should already have in your kitchen, so that’s a bonus!

If you’re not into spicy food, this recipe is for you. The garlic gives just the right amount of kick, without throwing a whole chilli in!

I put this recipe together this past weekend after my Grandmom threw out the idea of making a salsa! Afterwards, I discovered that the recipe is very similar to a Mexican dish called pico de gallo. It is a condiment made from chopped tomato, white onion, cilantro and chillis (typically jalapeños or serranos). This recipe does not include the chilli, but you can toss it in there if you’d like!

Here’s the recipe! You’ll need:

  • 4 ripe tomaotes, diced (I used beefsteak, but plum or any other type would work)
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix! Refrigerate, or serve immediately with tortilla chips!

VOILA! Shortest recipe I have ever posted.
