We love to use bleach when cleaning our laundry and other things, don’t we?

While can you add bleach to a swimming pool?

If yes, how long does it take to dissipate, and when should you go swimming?

We have all the answers to these questions in this piece

Is It Safe to Put Bleach in a Pool?

You can add household bleach to your swimming pool if you want to sanitize, but it is advisable to use pool-grade chlorine.

Chlorine bleach offers a higher concentration than household bleach to guarantee you of effective sanitization.

However, this type of bleach comes with added tasks because you need to maintain the pool’s chemical balance.

Note that chlorine bleach goes straight into killing microbes, besides sanitizing the pool.

How Long Does it Take for Bleach to Dissipate?

Bleach dissipates or degrades fast when in water, and the process is even faster when exposed to the sun.

It can take about 10 minutes for bleach to lose its power when in water, and that is enough time to disinfect your pool.

That means you might need to add more bleach after some hours for the pool to continue to enjoy its effect.

Hence, ensure that you add bleach in small amounts a few times a day, which will prevent unbalanced effects and offer sanitization.

How Long Should You Wait Before You Swim After Adding Bleach?

You should wait for about four hours before you swim when you add chlorine bleach or high levels of household bleach in your pool.

That is the time it takes for the water to circulate completely.

Note that a small amount of bleach might be safe for you to swim.
